Scotland V England matchday review

Last week I visited Scottish Gas Murrayfield to watch Scotland face the red roses in front of a record breaking crowd. And here were my thoughts on the day.

I attended the match with my partner and two young nieces and the pre match entertainment they had on offer for everyone was phenomenal. Scotland know how to put on a good fanzone. After hearing about the negatives response in Cardiff with their fan zone I was interested to see what they had on offer.

There were various services chatting with people and raising money for vital funds including RNLI who help keep us safe in the water & the hospital transportation bikes who deliver any blood or important organs to people who made need life saving surgery.

They also had a turn up & play aspect available for the children. They could sign up with an adults permission and have a go at rugby for themselves just before kick off. There was various artists performing in the fanzone and Scottish sensation Cammy Barnes was performing in the main bowl before the anthems and kick off.

We had lots of fun in the photo booth where you could pick your team and pose with a personalised slogan depending on your team of choice, ours being Scotland!

Before and during the game they had various mascots walking around the edge of the pitch hyping up the crowd, including Edinburgh and Glasgows mascots, the Scottish rugby mascot and even the commonwealth games mascot as the games heads to Glasgow in the summer.

The game itself was one to forget as a Scotland fan, the girls resilience and hard work was incredible to watch first hand and the atmosphere with both sets of fans cheering on their team was phenomenal.

After covering the World Cup last year, I was delighted to see many of the stars from the red roses play, and loved seeing Kabeya still rising and scoring for her country.

After the game many of the players from both teams came over to fans for autographs and pictures and the girls took so much time with everyone who was there no matter which team they were supporting and the patience they have with the children when they’ve had the chance to meet their hero is so beautiful to watch.

These women know they’re continuing to inspire the next generation and they are absolutely doing a phenomenal job of bringing in the buzz of women’s rugby and I’m honoured to be a small part of that.
